Sakyamuni Buddha
A Brief Introduction

Dharma dissemination

The Grand Sage Sakyamuni wished to tell sentient beings the grand path that He realized.

Initially He preached at Varanasi, teaching Buddhavatamsakamahavaipulya Sutra.  However, as the truth of the universe was too profound, very few could understand.

Sakyamuni then switched to teach the Four Noble Truths of suffering, accumulation, extinction and path, initially to the five disciples led by Ajnata-kaundinya.  He also taught the Eight Correct Paths which include correct view etc.  The sutra describes that as the first turning of the Dharma wheel.

Next, Sakyamuni taught the Mahaprajnaparamita sutra and Mahayanapulyamahasunnipata sutra and other sutras.

In the forty years that followed, He travelled around the five regions of India to teach and deliver sentient beings.  His followers were increasing in number all the while.

His final teachings were Saddharmapundarika sutra and Mahaparinirvanasna sutra.

Sakyamuni has been revered as Buddha, meaning the enlightened one.
