Sakyamuni -
From Crown Prince to Buddha

Only I know the truth of Sunyata nature

¡@ ¡@ There are slight differences between the recordings of the northern and southern transmission of Buddhism on the details of Sakyamuni Buddha from His birth to attaining Buddhahood.  This article blends all versions into one.  Kindly advise on any inappropriateness.

¡@ ¡@ Sakyamuni Buddha's worldly name was Siddhartha Gautama.  He was born in 565 BC and entered nirvana in 485 BC (some said 623 BC to 544 BC).  Siddhartha was born the crown prince of Suddhodana (Pure Rice King) , ruler of Kapilavastu, a ksatriya caste.  His mother was Madame Maya who was the daughter of the ruler of Devadarsita, the neighbouring kingdom.

¡@ ¡@ Madame Maya was pregnant when she was 45.  On the eighth day of the fourth month on the Chinese Lunar calendar, 565 BC, on her way to Devadarsita, Madame Maya passed by Lumbini Grove.  While she was standing under a tree, she gave birth to Siddhartha from her right armpit.  At that time, the baby's body was glowing with bright light, the ground was flooded with lotus, and the sky was filled with elegance music and showering down extraordinary colourful flowers.

¡@ ¡@ Siddhartha walked seven steps, then, with one hand pointed at the sky, and the other pointed at the ground, he loudly sang:

¡@ ¡@ "Within the universe, only I know the truth of sunyata nature."
